First, I was so sad to learn that Marjorie had died. She moved to Shannex Garden some time after my husband and me had done this but we immediately became good friends. She was aware that I had appeared on CBC television for a number of years which meant I had interviewed many remarkable people but, she, without question was one of the individuals who I will never forget I shall always recall her amazing personal recollections such as the day she told me about meeting the charming young man she immediately fell in love with. ( She was proud to tell me that day she was wearing her first fur coat)
Another one her stories (which she shared at a conference which was held to honour women who played a huge role in supporting the military on their way over seas) was her being at a pier where a ship carrying soldiers returning to Canada from the Second World War, she hugged an uncle and soon surrounded by many other men who wanted her to hug them as she had just done for her beloved relative! (No doubt, she was a lovely looking young woman. )
I could write a book about Marjorie because she was an extraordinary woman but, in closing. may I say I am particularly sad that she will not be alive when the new YMCA building named after her husband will be unveiled. We often spoke of this momentous occasion and I assured her I would be near her to witness the enormous pride she so clearly deserved!!!!!
