I’ve been keeping all my memories of Nanny Lindsay very close this week. I can so vividly see her sitting in the sun on the front deck of the cottage as we would round the corner of the barkhouse on our way for a visit. Coming for afternoon tea, a swim in the pool or often just a hug and to see what was up.
Usually, and especially after some time away, Nanny Lindsay would see us kids and quickly call out a boisterous greeting, banging on the arms of the chair she was sitting in and jumping to her feet. A hug always waiting, the rock you back and forth and give an extra squeeze at the end, kind of hug. The best kind.
I can see her rounding the corner of the kitchen door in her morning robe, smile on her face. I can see her sitting at the kitchen table cutting up fresh strawberries, offering tea. I can see her and Nana sitting on the bench at the end of the dock watching all of us Lindsay’s and Mussett’s run all around them. I can see the swims to the beach and her hair cap. Carrying a tray of tea and cookies out to the pool. Letting us sneak a Worthers (or two) from the bowl in the living room.
But most of all I can hear her voice. Her constant enthusiasm and loving warmth.
I’ll miss her so very much. Nanny Lindsay will always be a most treasured part of my childhood.
I love you all so much. It will be a day full of happy memories when the time comes to celebrate her life all together.
